Queer doesn’t only stand for the dazzling variety of questions related to sex and gender. Queer theory can give impulses to open tango to more possibilities. Thus the essence of tango can be freed from its restriction to heteronormative and genderspecific interpretations and rather be seen in its potential for a dialogue on equal pars. Queer Tango Marathon is an event that seeks the integration of cultures and artistic expressions under the concept of the respect for diversities and through an international such as tango in its many disciplines.
Having been declared of national cultural interest by the Secretary of Culture of the Presidency, by the government of Buenos Aires City and under the sponsorship of national offices like the INADI and IUNA, the event will start with preliminary activities of various artistic manifestations, to close, with the last 42 hours, 19 minutes and 50 seconds with non-stop activities. 42 couples forward the marathon relay.
They dance as a couple or exchanging partner, with other participants. Every hour will be announce with a version of “La Cumparsita” danced by the host couple. The host couple can present a show at the end of their hour. You can take part of the event in being one of the host couple or just dance during the event as a participant with every host couple.
The participants once registered, they will be asked to fill out a poll about activities they may like to include or personal concerns they might have about their involvement with tango. The seminars for mastering tango will be offer after the registration period as they will be designed and prepared based on the needs and requirements of the participants.
